Home Theatre Projectors Go Head-to-Head

"If you're looking to buy a video projector, it's probably for one of two reasons. Either you make a lot of PC presentations, or the largest rear-projection TV falls about 30 in. short of your idea of home theater. You may be shopping for one that serves both needs. One thing's for sure. The LCD or DLP projector you buy today is small and lightweight enough to go wherever you need it--home or office".

I have been fascinated by the Infocus projectors, in particular the LP120 which produces 1100 lumens from an incredibly small and light form factor and would love to have one at home to replace my dying 32" TV :). In this article, Popular Mechanics does a head to head review of several new theater-quality digital projectors for the home. The ones they look at are the SIM2 Domino 20, the NEC LT170, the Epson Powerlite S1, and the Sony Cineza VPL-HS20. Thye compare the brightness, contrast, life of unit, resolution, weight, costs and performance of the units. Now, even though they don't christen any particular projector as being the best in the group (allowing the buyer to make his/her own conclusion based on personal requirements), they do conclude that you don’t need a business powered project for your home, unless you really want to do so ;-).
