"AMD continues to drive innovative technologies like Cool'n'Quiet technology, which provide consumers a better home entertainment experience," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, AMD. "The AMD Athlon 64 processor packs high performance for multimedia applications, enabling consumers to enjoy their favorite movies or music from a central, PC-based media center housed in their living rooms."
AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is a system-level feature of the AMD Athlon 64 processor that is designed to automatically lower system power consumption when maximum processor performance is not needed. When a system consumes less power, it can run cooler and require less work from the fan, resulting in a quieter system for the user."
I'm all for quieter computers, so I applaud AMDs efforts - though I don't know how "new" this is. My Shuttle has had a multi-speed fan for quite some time, but it's still noisy. :?
