Music Stores Everywhere...

I think this will have an even lower success rate than the Pepsi/iTunes promotion did - are people really going to want to download a new software application just to get a free 99 cent song? Sony would be miles ahead if they had an integrated approach with Windows Media Player or another popular audio jukebox.
Next up, Canadians have a new option for music: electronics giant Future Shop (now owned by Best Buy) is launching a music service dubbed Bonfire. It's not live yet, but their slogan is "Bonfire: Where Music Burns". I think the name is somewhat cheesy, but it's unique and Canadian-sounding. I'm guessing they'll be partnering with Puretracks just like Telus did. This is the beginning of a trend where, for the next couple of years, we'll see co-branded music stores popping up all over. Eventually most will fail because people are more likely to go to the source than to a co-branded site.
