The following review was written by Bob Heald, a Digital Media Thoughts Reader who received a Canon 1D Mark II and put together an anecdotal review of his first week with it.

Product Category: Digital camera
Manufacturer: Canon
Where to Buy: Amazon (affiliate link)
Price: $4499.99 USD
Specifications: Professional Grade Single Lens Reflex, 8.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, magnesium alloy shell, NiMH rechargeable battery pack, Compact Flash Type I/II - Microdrive compatible and Secure Digital, recognizes >2 gigabyte storage media.

Pros:
  • Solid construction and weight (See text)
  • Extremely fast;
  • Large frame buffer;
  • Accepts all Canon (except S) EF lenses;
  • Comprehensive user interface.
Cons:
  • Price;
  • Weight (see text).
Summary:
As a semi-professional photographer, I have always been a fan of Canon cameras. The EOS line has a well deserved reputation for speed and quietness of operation that are highly valued for wildlife and action photography. While this camera may not be for everybody, for those wanting high resolution, very fast frame rate, and the other things this camera offers, it has no direct competitor.
