Photoshop Elements 3.0 is three years in the making, and the engineers at Adobe Systems have done a fantastic job with this release. Rather than ship a new version each year, the company waited and truly shipped a full version release. There are so many cool features in this release that it would take more than what was written here to cover it all. Of all the new features in this release, my favorites are Photo Compare and the support for the Camera RAW file format. I imagine that Adobe will bring Photo Compare into the next version of Photoshop , because this tool enables you to truly compare two images side by side at the same time or individually. It is too cool of a tool not to. Support for Camera RAW will give those users who prefer to shoot in the Camera RAW format a very inexpensive and elegant way to edit those RAW files. I don't know of any other image editor offered at this price point ($99, $89 Mac version) that offers the capability to edit RAW files in such an easy to use format. The other companies that offer image editors need to seriously consider adding this capability into future releases, because it is really important for those who have the need and capability to capture RAW images. The feature set is robust, the price is right, the performance is exceptional on a dual G5 and a 3GHz machine, and the output and share options are many. Photoshop Elements 3.0 is a feature laden image editor at a killer price point."
With each release of Photoshop Elements, Adobe has pushed the envelope with features. The latest version could just be about perfect for even prosumer users, let alone amateurs.
