"Dedicated Devices (DDI) has introduced an interesting system for house-wide media distribution. Comprised of the Digital Distribution Center ($2250) and one or more Digital Players ($299 each), the DDI system is intended to be a complete home networking and media solution -- performing everything from firewall duties to streaming media storage and playback. The Digital Distribution Center (DDC) includes an eight port Ethernet switch, intended to serve up to eight zones in a house. Up to eight audio streams can be sent at once, and up to four video streams -- including high definition video. It has a built-in hard drive (no word yet on the size), and can be expanded by adding additional external USB 2.0 hard drives."
Apparently there isn't any PVR like functionality, but other than that it appears to be a complete media solution. So far I have been very impressed with Sonos' media system and haven't bothered looking at much else, but this DDI system has made me look again. Pricing is set at just over $2200.
