Amazon Launches Online DVD Rentals In UK

"The U.K. Web site of Amazon.com is launching a DVD rental service, the online retailer's first foray into a market that was pioneered by U.S.-based Netflix. The service will be integrated into the Web site's popular DVD store, and rental customers will receive 10 percent off DVD purchases. "Amazon is determined to be the best place to rent DVDs--online or off," Chief Executive Jeff Bezos said Thursday. DVD rental services allow customers to keep a set number of DVDs at one time for a monthly fee, with no late charges. They are managed online, but customers receive and return their movies through postal mail."
