The digital camera/MP3/PDA market can rejoice. Lexar is soon to produce a new flash format, the USB Flash Card that can be plugged directly into your computer's USB port. This may be just what the market needed after the constantly growing number of flash card formats. No, really! Don't we all already use USB sticks? Wouldn't it make sense to use the same format for everything else? (OK, maybe not in cell phones.)

The card is half as wide but twice as thick as a regular SD card, the USB 2.0 version will have up to 1GB of storage capacity and prospective small electronics manufacturers will not be charge any royalty fees by Lexar. This SHOULD keep the price low - but then again, MMC is more expensive that SD despite roylaty fees for SD cards and SD card slots in devices.
