JVC's Virtual 5.1 Home Theatre

"Space is quite limited in Japan and installing a 5.1 system might be difficult, so a virtual 5.1 sounds like a good solution. JVC has such a system, and purists might say that it's not the real thing, but an included MD player makes this a good alternative and versatile solution."
This is the first virtual surround sound system I've seen shipping, and I'm not surprised it's shipping in Japan first. I wonder what type of technology they're using in this though - I was under the impression that this stuff was still a year or two away.
