Plasma Displays Outsell Rear-Projection TVs

"Shipments of plasma televisions reached a record high during the second quarter, as the category passed rear-projections TVs in total sales. Plasma TV shipments reached a record high of 1.13 million units during the second quarter, up 24 percent and 89 percent year-over-year, according to market research firm DisplaySearch. Meanwhile, the RPTV market declined 27 percent quarter-to-quarter and 17 percent, year over year. As a result, plasma sales now total 2.9 percent of all units sold, while RPTVs fell to 2.5 percent."
I'm not surprised as these Plasma TVs (as well as LCD) are much easier to ship from Asia to around the world. Plus, other than North America who has room for huge a 65" RPTV (I do!)? I haven't entered the world of flat panel HDTV, but it seems like by the time I replace my existing TV, I'll probably not have a RPTV choice. That would be fine by me. 8)
