"eMagin, which makes video display products for military and industrial uses, has unveiled the EyeBud headset, a new wearable display for video iPods. The EyeBud, which displays video in front of one eye, can provide the impression of watching video on a 105-inch display from 12 feet away, according to the company. “Suddenly you’ve got this big-screen, movie-screen, home-theater experience, wherever you are,” said Gary Jones, eMagin’s president and CEO. The EyeBud uses a separate control module, about the size of an iPod, which includes a rechargeable battery pack. The EyeBud is scheduled to be available later this year for as much as $600." I had a chance to try out the eMagin display at Digital Life a few months ago, and it's the best Head Mounted Display I've ever used. The image clarity and brightness is astounding, no doubt due to the use of OLED displays. Seems like a bulky and expensive add-on for an iPod, but given the popularity of the iPod's video functionality, I'm sure they'll find more than a few buyers for it.
