Digital Home Thoughts: Mediabolic Supplies Media Server Software for New Digital Entertainment PCs

Mediabolic’s software component in the Intel Viiv technology platform will enable digital content on an Intel Viiv technology based PC to be moved to other PCs and devices around the home...PCs based on Intel Viiv technology will be powered by a suite of Intel technologies and include software that is designed to be used with a remote control. In the second half of 2006, consumers will be able to share their content with a variety of Intel Viiv technology-verified digital devices throughout the home. The ability to stream digital media content from the PC to devices in other rooms is made possible by Mediabolic’s software, one of several components in future Intel Viiv technology platforms."

Another feather in the cap of Viiv - but I can't figure out if this is a little feather or a big feather. This seems to be a direct competitor for Windows Media Connect devices, so I wonder how successful it will be. Granted, Windows Media Connect hasn't exactly been a raging success either, but it works well enough for audio and photos. Has anyone used the Mediabolic Media Server product before? I've downloaded a firmware upgrade for my Maxtor NAS drive that turns it into a Mediabolic device, but I haven't got around to installing it yet.
