PC World: Sony Delays First Blu-ray Disc Titles

"Sony Pictures Entertainment is delaying the launch of its first titles on the new Blu-ray Disc high-definition video format for a month, it said this week. The company had originally planned to ship eight movie titles on May 23 and seven more on June 13. Now the initial eight titles will ship on June 20 while a new launch date for the latter seven has not been decided, said Sony Pictures Entertainment. The delay is unlikely to inconvenience consumers as the first Blu-ray Disc player isn't expected to be available until five days later on June 25."
Could they possibly flub this launch more? I mean, it's bad enough that HD-DVD beat them to market, but once that was done you'd think they'd do anything to get their product on the shelf ASAP. 'Course there's no player to play it on yet, so maybe they're not concerned with content until Samsung releases their player. In a format war like this though, being late to market by even one month (let alone 2) could be death to your format. Can you imagine being Samsung and knowing that the format war may very well be lost because your player isn't on the market yet? Can you imagine being Sony and realizing that your beloved format may fail because some other vendor hasn't even released the player yet? Yuck, either way.
