I was flipping though an issue of PEOPLE magazine that my wife bought (I like some celeb news now and then), and I came across a three-page ad campaign that Nikon did to promote their new D80 camera. Very interesting stuff: page one was a composite of 16 photos of different photographers holding the D80. The text read
"We gave them the new Nikon D80. What they gave back was stunning." The next page was four great photos from these photographers, along with some text about how these photographers shoot for Flickr, personal family photo albums, etc. As in, these aren't high-priced professional photographers, they're passionate amateurs. There was an URL to stunningnikon.com, which I checked out a bit later. The third page was your typical camera advertisment with a photo of the camera, and the technicaly specifications.
I went to my PC and checked out
stunningnikon.com and was impressed - Nikon has a slick Flash-based system that allows you to navigate around the phots that these amateurs took, and it allows you to watch short videos of these people talking about the camera and what they like about it - then you can jump directly to their Flickr profile if you want to see more of their photography. All in all, a really nice campaign from Nikon.
