"One of the most useful applications I've seen so far for the Windows (Vista) Media Center Edition is WebGuide4, a solution which installs on Windows (Vista) Media Centers to provide remote access to the Media Center from virtually any web browser. So far, WebGuide4 was accessible from PC and mobile device browsers only but now, WebGuide4 got a free utility - a Windows Vista WebGuide Gadget which allows you to connect to a local Media Center or a remote WebGuide server. It gives full access to the program guide, search, recorded TV and scheduled Recordings. It even allows to start a live TV stream, when connected to a WebGuide server." Sounds like a cool little utility for accessing your Vista MCE's program guide, provided you're using Vista on the machine you want access from. You'll have to purchase Webguide4 in order to get the sidebar gadget, but for $18, I'd say it's a pretty good deal.
