"Last year both Sony and Toshiba-Samsung unveiled solutions in the form of Blu-ray and HD-DVD respectively. Both formats offer HD content for the home theater environment, but the way in which they deliver that content is fundamentally different, placing the two camps in a format war hearkening back to the VHS vs. Betamax struggle in the late-70s/early-80s. With hardware costs for both camps being relatively high, not to mention the fact that there are very few dual format players, most consumers are forced to decide between Blu-ray or HD-DVD for their high definition needs. But which format is worth the investment? Which format will provide the best quality and stick around to make the investment worthwhile? We’ll take a look at the answers to those questions for both formats."This article does a great job of explaining the whole HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray thing in a clear and concise manner. If you're a newcomer to the subject, this is a must-read. Those of us who are already bored of the subject and are just waiting for an outcome (read: me) won't find much new here, except for the fact that the author actually says he thinks Blu-ray will win. I think it's still too early to decide even who's ahead here, especially with a number of us not buying either
because we're waiting to see who wins.
