Digital Home Thoughts: DecalGirl Dresses up the Asus Eee PC

DecalGirl has been around for a while now providing high quality skins for your various gadgets. When I was looking for a way to dress up my Asus Eee PC, they were my first stop. I was pleased to see that they offered 55 different designs for the Eee. They've got designs to suit most tastes and the coordinate nicely with both the black and white models. I chose the “Bones” skin pictured above. After the break, we'll will get it installed and see how it looks on my black Eee. The skin for the Eee is actually a two part affair. The main decal goes on the back of the unit and a matching decal goes on the wrist rest. They are printed on a single sheet and peel off easily.

The decals are printed on fairly heavy vinyl and according to their website, this is the same material they use to make car decals so it should be more than up to any beating I plan to give my Eee. I found installation to be pretty simple. The decals almost feel like they have a two level adhesive. The light adhesive will hold in in place while you are placing it, but is easily moved, but once you get it in place and then start pressing it on firmly, a secondary adhesive seems to really hold things in place. The only difficulty I had was installing the wrist rest since the two halves are connected by a very thin piece, so it took a little extra patience to get is just right. As you can see, it looks pretty sharp once installed.

One of the other nice things about DecalGirl is that they have a pretty extensive list of devices they design for. Therefore, it is pretty easy to coordinate multiple devices with the same set of decals. For example, I requested the matching skin for my Zune since it and my Eee go most places with me.

Skins for the Eee run $12.99. They also carry a full line of other skins for various phones, MP3 players, and gaming systems. The quality, and affordable price of the product, make it a great addition to any device you want to change the look of.
