Primadesk: One App to Rule All Your Clouds?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Articles & Resources" @ 09:00 AM

https://www.primadesk.com/

"Many of us rely on several different online services, like Google Docs, file syncing services, photo sharing and image hosting sites, and even probably a mix of webmail and corporate email providers. If you'd like a unified view of all your cloud content and way to drag and drop files between them, check out webapp Primadesk."

There are some Web startups that make you think "Do we really need that think you're creating?", but this is not one of them. I've long wondered who would be the first to create a tool that would unify disparate Web-based storage and sharing systems. This looks like it might be the solution - a system that allows you to view and search all your cloud data, and better yet, move data between services. I'll be following this with intense interest!

How To Run Your Wireless Network Like a Coffee Shop Does

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Articles & Resources" @ 02:00 PM

"Want to open up your Wi-Fi network to easier access for visitors, block the web's nasty stuff from young eyes, and maybe regain some bandwidth, too? Go ahead and unleash your inner coffee shop owner. With free software and no extra hardware, you can manage content and bandwidth on your home network, or even manage a semi-public "hotspot," without feeling like a despot."

If you have a WiFi network - or, really, a home network at all - that others use, be they family or friends, this is worth reading if you want to help keep your sanity. From the basics of using the free OpenDNS service to apply family-friendly Web filtering to using a Hotspot system to create a system whereby WiFi access is handed out on a controlled basis. The Hotspot system in particular is slick; I'd never heard of it before this article, and it's very clever!

Summary:There is a third dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and between Roxio Creator 2010 and 2012 - which indecently is Roxio Creator 2011. I have taken some liberties with Rod Sterling's famous words (see The Twilight Zone), and Roxio has taken some liberties with the notion that two dimensions can be converted into three. But really, how cool would it be to do just that - convert your 2D photos and video into 3D? I put on the included 3D glasses and took a look for myself. Spoiler alert - it's pretty cool!
